Bloggers, Weaning & A Nutella Mug Cake! #LittleLoves

LittleLoves

Hello!

#LittleLoves is a linky held over at But Why Mummy Why. I thought it would be fun to join in with this once a week.

The idea behind the posts is that they are a weekly chance to remember the little things you’ve loved that join up to make your week. You don’t need to be a parenting blogger to join in, all bloggers are welcome!

I’m really sorry for my lack of photos this week – I was having a bit of a nightmare whilst writing this post.

Read

I haven’t been reading very much in the way of physical books lately. This has actually made me decide to venture out and purchase my own domain, freshen up the blog a bit and start posting different topics.

I have discovered some wonderful new blogs this week though.

youbabymemummy.com
I have found the blogging tips on this blog invaluable. It has been a lifesaver!

writelikenooneswatching.com
The recipes on this blog are just delicious!

Watched

YouTube! I recently discovered Sarah Barnes and have loved watching her grocery hauls, slimming world updates and cake tutorials. She deserves more subscribers!

Heard

I have been listening to the George Ezra album via Spotify this week, I really love his voice.

Made

I have actually made lots this week! I’m really pleased with myself. I have made some meals for Parker – Cauliflower, Apple and Carrot Purees all frozen and stored ready for the week ahead. I am going to be doing Pear & Sweet Potato over the weekend too.

IMG_2616

I made (and enjoyed) Cauliflower Rice for the first time this week too. Just followed a very simple recipe, it really was so easy – it turned out well. It’s really healthy, so definitely a winner for me.

Then I made a very, very naughty Nutella Mug Cake. It was sooooo delicious, and super easy to do. 1 min in the microwave! It had the perfect gooey brownie-ness to it. You can find the recipe I used here.

IMG_2617

Excuse the messiness – I was just too eager to eat it!

Wore

My new Primark jeans – for £15 you can’t go wrong.

And Lastly

I’ve downloaded the Annabel Karmel app to help me with weaning. Being a first time mum I really don’t have a clue, so thought this would be handy. It has been fantastic so far – well worth the £3.99. It has loads of recipes, and a shopping list function. The most useful feature for me has been the meal planner. You can follow a pre-made planner (great for first tastes) suggesting when to give breakfast and lunch, and what foods to give. You can also create your own meaning I can input recipes into a visible planner, preparing for the weeks ahead.

Also, I’m hoping to go solo with my blog in the next week or so. I have purchased a new domain and am currently looking at hosting etc (getting my head around it all!). I’m looking at new themes too, thinking of treating myself. I really want to refresh my blog and add a variety of posts, I feel this is the way forward for me.

Hope you’ve all had a good week, would love to know what you’ve been up to!

Lunch Dates, Bluewater & Lots of Sun! #LittleLoves

I’m a little bit late this week, been another busy one! I really must learn to schedule these posts.

Read

I have just finished Stardust by Neil Gaiman for my new blog feature, Random Reads. It was actually a re-read for me but I enjoyed it so much more the second time around. I’m now reading The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld – it is beautifully written and I’m really enjoying it so far. I aim to pick up some of my Penguin Little Black Classics afterwards.

Watched

I have been loving Alan Carr Chatty Man and catching up with Hollyoaks. I’m aiming to start watching The 100 as it has just become available on Amazon Prime. To be honest, I don’t really watch much TV – I prefer reading and discovering new blogs. I have rediscovered GoggleBox though – a guilty pleasure of mine!

Heard

Parker laughing, it truly makes my day. He is such a happy, contented baby – I feel extremely lucky.

Made

I have started to make purees for Parker. I had a couple of Parsnips in the fridge that needed to be used so thought I’d give it a go. Easy and totally do-able, I’m really hoping to make him as much as I can myself. I’m aiming to use the Ella’s Kitchen First Foods CookBook, it has great recipes from first tastes to 12 months plus. It also says about giving baby a new veggie taste, every day, for the first two weeks – apparently this is meant to develop their taste for savoury foods as opposed to a sweet tooth.

On the topic of the Ella’s Kitchen CookBook – we actually made a meal from it this week to try for ourselves. We adapted certain steps, because Parker isn’t eating with us yet. I have to say it was absolutely delicious! We decided to try the Jammin’ Jamaican Fish Curry – yummy.

Wore

We took a trip to Bluewater this week as it was my Birthday last weekend and I had some money to spend. I got a gorgeous new raincoat from Superdry, it has a festival chick vibe about it – I love it. I wore it a few days this week, it is light and totally waterproof – great for those unexpected showers! I also got some new books (of course), a few bits from Lush and a couple of Pandora charms, I am very lucky.

And Lastly

I had two lovely lunch dates this week. I went over to a friends house for some yummy lasagne, with Parker and a few other friends. It was so lovely to see everyone and relax together. They haven’t seen Parker for a while, so were rather surprised at how much he has changed!

I then met up with two of my very good friends and work colleagues, and went for lunch at Wyatt & Jones – a lovely, seaside restaurant serving British food. I didn’t take Parker with me this time – it was nice not to have to worry about feeding and changing bums whilst eating, although I did miss him.

We also enjoyed the lovely sunshine this week and took a walk along the seafront. I love living by the seaside, I cannot wait to spend time here with Parker when he is older, building sandcastles and paddling!

Read

I have been reading The Breeders by Katie French this week. I have been in such a big reading slump this month, a YA Dystopian seemed to be what I needed to get back on it.

TheBreeders

I have also counted up all of my physical TBR books this week, I have 66! This isn’t a lot compared to some bloggers, but I still need to tackle this. Especially as I am now only receiving statutory maternity pay (which is pants!) – so no more book buying for me!

Watched

The Walking Dead…still! Also, Alan Carr Chatty Man – I love, love, love Alan Carr – never fails to make me roar with laughter.

Heard

Haven’t really got anything to add in here. Any good audio book recommendations? I can borrow them from the OverDrive library app 😉

Made

I have been really happy with my meal planning and organisation this week. I have actually done the weekly shop and planned all my meals, making dinners for every evening – without resorting to a takeaway! Yes!

Wore

My pyjamas! So cosy 🙂 Been loving slouching in the evenings, with the dog, reading blogs and watching rubbish TV.

And Lastly

Parker had his last set of immunisations this week and was surprisingly good. He cried a little, and then was straight back to smiling and laughing. My mum & I also took him swimming again this week. We can’t stay in the pool long as he gets cold so quickly – I’m debating whether to get him a ‘BabyWarma’ – like a wetsuit that keeps babies warm in the pool. Have you used one?

I’m going to watch ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ tomorrow at The Marlowe Theatre, with my nan. I’m really looking forward to it, I adored the book and the film – I will be sure to take my tissues though! It is apparently a world premiere. Exciting!

Hello!

A bit late posting this week, been so hectic here – not really sure why either!

Read

I have been in such a reading slump this week – it sucks! I am working my way through Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas and although I’m enjoying it reading has taken a bit of a back seat this week.

Watched

Revenge! I started watching this series about a year ago and stopped. WHY?! I love it! I am working my way steadily through three seasons on Amazon Prime.

Heard

I haven’t really heard anything that has caught my attention this week. Although, it has been nice to hear the birds outside on a sunny day.

Made

When I went to Crete in 2014 with my hubby and friends we discovered chocolate covered oreos – random I know. You can’t get them in the UK (when we were at Stansted Airport, a small box was £6.50 in duty free!). So, I decided to try my hand at making them! They were delicious, needless to say I didn’t get a picture because my Hubby ate them pretty swiftly.

Wore

My white Flossy plimsolls. Loving this warmer weather, comfy shoes and no need for socks!

And Lastly

My nan & I went to see The Nutcracker at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury this week. It was really lovely, such a nice, relaxing evening. The ballet was just beautiful. When I watch it I miss doing it so much. This is the only reason I am looking forward to heading back to work – school productions! I love the madness of them.

I think we are going to try and book tickets to the performance of ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ now too. Fingers crossed.

I also starting buying bits and pieces of weaning equipment. Parker is 4 months old now, and although I’m not planning to start just yet I like to be prepared. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips? I love the look of the Beaba Babycook, just wondering – is it worth it?

Thanks for stopping by! Have a lovely week,

xoxo

Read

I am currently reading ‘The Dead Wife’s Handbook’ by Hannah Beckerman. I’m only 60 something pages in and it is already tearing my heart open. I can feel that this one is going to be a complete tear-jerker, I am definitely relating to it more now I’m a mummy too!

Watched

We actually watched a film together this week (Hubby & I) – Taken 3. I love the first two films, Liam Neeson kicks butt! The third one was good, not as good as the first two, but still worth a watch.

Heard

I purchased The Ministry of Sound ‘Chilled’ album this week. Some good tunes on it, although I always get sucked in by the adverts and then I’m a little disappointed. A good album to play when having a lazy moment though.

Made

I haven’t really made anything this week, although I am planning to try and fit in some baking next week.

Wore

Sunglasses! Again, the weather has been lovely here. Also, P looked adorable in his swimsuit for his first time in the pool.

And Lastly

We took P for his first swim this week. It was brilliant, he loved it. He looked so cute in his Mickey Mouse swimsuit. He loved floating and splashing in the water, and was full of big smiles and giggles.

I have been teaching a lot this week. I work for a local centre that takes foreign students and teaches them English. The young people stay with host families, go on trips and outings, have lessons and are provided with an activity in the evening. I provide an activity – StreetDance. It is always such good fun, it just takes up my evenings. I taught over 150 students in the space of 6 hours! It has been great to get back into teaching, I am absolutely loving it again.

Hope you’ve all had a good week, would love to know what you’ve been up to!

Better late than never this week!

Read

I have been reading The Ship by Antonia Honeywell this week. I am enjoying it but with such a crazy week haven’t been able to immerse myself within a book like usual.

The Ship

Watched

I have been binge-watching Hollyoaks this week. I normally have at least 5 episodes on my SKY+ so I’m never up to date! I loved the return of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway too. My favourite programme of the week is probably The Great British Sewing Bee, I love watching the creations and would love to have a go at sewing myself.

Heard

My little P laughed for the first time this week. He only did it the once (despite my best efforts to get him to do it again). My husband missed it, I’m sure we will hear lots more of it soon. It was the most adorable thing, ever!

Made

We made pizza this week! It was a nice change from shop bought, at least we knew the contents.

Wore

Our Mothercare Baby Carrier. We went to Denmark this week and used this to hold P around the airport. It was a life saver, although not so sure it will be as easy when he is bigger. It was nice to feel like he was safe with me, he seemed to like snuggling in it – he feel asleep the whole time.

And Lastly

We went to Denmark to visit my sister-in-law this week. We only went for two days, but for our first flight and holiday away from home with a three month old I felt this was enough. P was brilliant on both flights, falling asleep both times. It’s amazing to think that he has been on an aeroplane already – at 3 months old. It was lovely to catch up with the family and Denmark is a lovely place to visit. It is so clean and the culture is so different to here in the UK.

We also went to The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury to watch Shrek. It was a lovely afternoon out – we even managed to grab lunch. I missed P massively but mummy and daddy time was lovely. The show was fun (not the best I’ve seen) but still worth the watch. Gerard Carey was by far the show stealer, his portrayal of Lord Farquaad was just pure genius.

I have been reading Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill this week. It is a chilling YA dystopian read that really makes you think about the influence of the media on young girls today. A great message, can’t wait to see how it pans out. Isn’t the cover a little creepy?

OnlyEverYours

Watched

The Walking Dead. Need I say more?

Heard

I’m absolutely loving Hold Back the River by James Bay.

Made

I haven’t really made anything interesting this week. Although I have printed out a few photos for our new bedroom makeover, ready to make a framed collage.

Wore

My oversized, slouchy jumper from Primark. And my sunglasses – in England, in February!

And Lastly

We are actually flying to Denmark as you’re reading this, to visit my husband’s sister. I’m looking forward to it, although I am a little anxious about the flight with a 3 month old. People do it all the time and it is a short flight, so I’m sure we will be fine.

I also booked some tickets for my husband and I to see ‘Shrek: The Musical’. I’m mega excited about this.
