Simply Sunday [5]

Simply Sunday is a weekly reading meme held over at Books for a Delicate Eternity. It’s where you can share your favourite quote of the week; be it from a book, novella, a short story, a song, a poem – whatever you like! I have decided to use my favourite quote from my current read each week.

Quote:

“Death has his favorites, like anyone. Those who are beloved of Death will not die.”

 – p.72 ‘The Coldest Girl in Coldtown’ by Holly Black

Why this quote?

I just love the simplicity of it!

Quote:

“I trust you with their lives,’ Prof said, still writing, ‘and them with yours. Don’t betray that trust, son. Keep your impulses in check. Don’t just act because you can; act because it’s the right thing to do. If you keep that in mind, you’ll be all right.”

 – Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Why this quote?

I love the simplicity of this. I feel that we should all try to act because it is the right thing to do not just because we can – humanity would be much stronger, the world might even be a nicer place.

I actually have two quotes I want to share this week.

Quote #1:

The only way we can survive is to work together. Each of us must play our part. The minute we stand alone, we fall alone.

A quote from Looking at the Stars by Jo Cotterill.

Why this quote?

I just love this. It is a powerful, inspirational quote about the power of humanity and survival.

Quote #2

My books have been in boxes for far too long.  The contents will get jumbled and become deranged.

A quote from Call the Midwife – (BBC 1, Series 3, Episode 2) said by Sister Monica Joan.

Why this quote?

Love it! It’s a book quote, what’s not to love? This is why all books deserve to be on shelves!

Mortal fear is as crucial a thing to our lives as love. It cuts to the core of our being and shows us what we are. Will you step back and cover your eyes? Or will you have the strength to walk to the precipice and look out?

A quote from Night Film by Marisha Pessl.

Why this quote?

I feel like this quote sums up the premise of this book so well. A quote about strength, fear and courage. A thought-provoking moment that truly makes you question how strong fear and love are in human beings.
